Training & Workshops

Human-centered Design

Our approach puts people at the center of the development process, enabling to offer services designed for the specific needs of our audience. Through  customized training sessions and workshops we equip professionals with the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to further advance their performance and promote operational efficiency. From hands-on fire-fighting training onboard to human factors integration, we provide practical solutions tailored to company’s needs.

Marine two stroke engine

Marine Two-Stroke Engine Courses

It takes more than just basic knowledge to run efficiently the whole cycle that defines the operation of main engines. From monitoring and condition-based maintenance to trouble-shooting, you have to be always ready to intervene trying to smooth operation without costly delays.

These highly interactive workshops are built on hands-on experience and proven engineering practices. Most importantly, can be customized to address the specific needs of your team and operational context.

Whether focusing on older MC engines or newer ME-C, ME-B, and dual-fuel ME-GI engines, the workshops cover the following areas:
• Operation
• Optimization
• Troubleshooting & key diagnostic skills, such as HCU event interpretation

Furthermore, the said workshops can be delivered remotely, in-class, or onboard and are designed for marine engineers and technical superintendents who seek clarity based on experience. The experience to perform!

Incident Investigation

Incident Investigation and Causal Reasoning

Our people have been involved in various situations as lead investigators and have dealt with challenging maritime issues, which helped them to cultivate a genuine understanding and identification of the root causes of incidents onboard.

Furthermore, our experience in the field of human factors is very helpful as we try to identify performance influencing factors that had a critical contribution to an incident.

Superintendent Course

Superintendent Course

The Superintendent Course is a practical, experience-based program designed for superintendents in the maritime industry.

This workshop focuses on the real-world challenges faced by technical and marine superintendents, from managing maintenance and drydocking to supporting crews, auditing vessels and navigating compliance requirements.

Through interactive sessions, case studies, and expert-led discussions, participants gain a clear understanding of the superintendent’s role across ship and shore operations.

The course also briefly discusses behavioural elements such as human element communication, decision-making under pressure and building trust across departments and teams.

Led by professionals with hands-on experience in fleet management and newbuilding supervision, the program bridges theory and practice to equip participants with the tools they need to perform confidently and effectively.

The DPA in the AI era

This workshop explores the evolving role of the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) in a maritime environment increasingly shaped by data, automation, and AI-assisted systems.

Participants will examine how emerging technologies are influencing safety management, reporting and decision-making and how the DPA can remain an effective link between ship and shore in this new operational context.

The course blends practical safety leadership principles with an introduction to AI-enhanced tools (e.g., digital audits, predictive safety analytics, behavior-based risk indicators), helping DPAs better interpret information, anticipate challenges and guide their teams through complexity.

Real-world scenarios, case studies and interactive exercises ensure that the workshop is grounded in daily practice, while encouraging participants to think critically about how their role is changing and how to stay effective and trusted in a data-driven era.

AFF2

Advanced Firefighting onboard (AFF2)

Fire-fighting onboard training (AFF2) has been developed as a vessel-specific initiative to assist seafarers in coping with the undesired event of fire onboard. This program contains the following five phases:

  1. Tutoring is taking place as we try to ensure that seafarers onboard are well acquainted with the designated fire-fighting tasks
  2. Demonstration on the right use of the available fire- fighting appliances is taking place, while at the same time the equipment is checked to ensure that is well-functioning
  3. Implementation of the established emergency plan during a simulated emergency scenario
  4. Discussion on the things and actions which were exercised (lessons learned) to identify room for further improvement
  5. Completion report – Action plan with things to be included in the seafarers’ training schedule to help them advance their skills in the field
Behavioural Competence Assessment

Behavioural Competency Assessment

According to OCIMF “Seafarers work in one of the most risk-aware environments. They are trained to a very high technical standard and, therefore, are able to contemplate risks and prevent them from becoming potential incidents. However, a focus on soft skills would enhance overall safety and further reduce incident rates.”

Having said the above, we understand that Behavioural Competency Assessment is a process with critical implications on safety onboard.

During this interactive workshop the following training objectives are expected to be accomplished by attendees:

  • Understand the principles of competency-based assessment.
  • Realize the differences between Technical and Behavioural Competencies
  • Become acquainted with the process and methodology for onboard competency-based assessment.
  • Plan, implement and document the onboard assessment of competence.
  • Practice basic communication
  • Provide feedback and report the outcome of the assessment.
Leadership and Team Development

Leadership & Team Development in a disruptive context

During this interactive workshop the following key-topics are discussed:

  • Understanding human needs: what drives motivation and commitment?
  • What makes a Leader? The contextual factors and their implications on Leadership style and Team Performance
  • How to develop and implement the appropriate transformation process to ensure engagement, enhance team’s cohesion and enable collective performance beyond expectations
  • Developing a human-centred approach to promote inclusiveness, diversity and dependability
  • Evaluation of cases from leal-life examples
The Safety Journey

The Safety Journey: from Deadly Dozen to Performance Influencing Factors (PIFs)

This workshop has emerged as a response to the changing “safety landscape” from human factors to HFMSA. We focus on the differences between “work as imagined” and “work as done” and their implications for all concerned, particularly those at the sharp end.

The following are among the issues which are discussed during this workshop:

  • “Safety as a process” vs “Safety as an outcome”
  • People, mistakes and continuous improvement
  • Human factors and human limitations
  • The implication of situational awareness on maritime incidents
  • Stress Management and decision making
  • The implications of hindsight bias on incident investigations
  • “Are we learning from Accidents?”

SIRE 2

SIRE 2.0: The Vetting Process Differently!

As the new Ship Inspection Report Programme has been enforced since September 2024,  we’ve developed an interactive workshop with the following training objectives:

  • To help attendees become acquainted with the new structure of SIRE 2.0
  • To increase their understanding of Performance Influencing Factors (PIF) and their implications on the outcome of the inspection process
  • To understand the inter-relationships among SIRE 2.0, the existing regulations and industry best practices
  • To identify the focus areas of the inspection process
